The Twin Cities in February~ It Was Snow Much Fun

Nate & I took a road trip to the Twin Cities a few weeks ago for some much-needed relaxation and quality time with friends! We knew we had wanted to take a trip in February for our birthdays (since they are only a couple of weeks apart) so we planned out a full trip full of fun activities and tasty meals!

We stayed at an Airbnb in the Sable building located in the North Loop that was hosted by Minnestay. Minnestay was super easy to book with and they have rental properties throughout Minnesota; so we will definitely be looking into booking with them again in the future!

Follow along through a day-by-day look at how our trip panned out! Looking for trip photos? Head to the bottom of this post for trip highlights.

Thursday

Dinner & Drinks

After our 9-hour drive from Belle Fourche to Minneapolis we checked in to our Airbnb and headed out for dinner & drinks. There were plenty of options near our stay! We walked to the North Loop Galley; a food hall & full-service bar with plenty of dining options that was right next door to our Airbnb. We choose to order from Wrecktangle Pizza, a Detroit-style pizza restaurant with a few locations in Minneapolis which has recently made its name as having the best pizza in the country!

After dinner, we decided to walk around the North Loop and stumbled upon Modist Brewing where we each got a drink. They had plenty of great options for beer and seltzer drinkers! We ended the night back at our Airbnb watching an episode of Full Swing on Netflix.

Friday

Breakfast

We headed out on Friday morning to the cutest breakfast spot; Black: Coffee and Waffle Bar. They have a few different locations throughout the Twin Cities but we went to the Minneapolis location. Waffles are one of my favorite breakfast options so I wanted to check this place out while we were visiting! I ordered the apple strudel waffle and an iced caramel macchiato while Nate ordered the loaded potato waffle and a regular caramel macchiato.

Daytime Activities & Lunch

After breakfast, we headed downtown to the Mill City Museum. Nate & I love to go to different museums when we travel so when we were looking up things to do in Minneapolis we couldn't pass up the opportunity to learn more about the old flour mills and their impact and importance in the creation of Minneapolis. There are different interactive exhibits, videos, and a flour tower elevator experience that leads you to a stunning view of the city.

For our late lunch, we went to The Nook in St. Paul for some delicious burgers & sandwiches!

The Nook is such a perfect local spot to grab a drink or get one of their signature menu items. My favorite part of my meal was their sweet potato fries that come sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar.

Evening Activities & Late Night Snacks

We headed back to the Airbnb for a little bit before our friends Rik and Jenna picked us up for our night out. We headed towards the Xcel Energy Center for a Minnesota Wild hockey game against the Dallas Stars. Before the game, we grabbed a few drinks at Tom Reid's Hockey City Pub, we originally had planned to grab dinner there as well but since we had eaten lunch so late we decided to grab a snack later.

The Wild game was so much fun; neither Erik nor Jenna had been to a Wild game before so we walked around inside for a while before finding our seats. The Wild and The Stars were tied for most of the game but The Wild ended up winning in a thrilling shootout!

After the game, we headed back to the North Loop and stopped at Fuzzy's Tacos for a late-night bite with Rik and Jenna before the night ended.

Saturday

Disclaimer: This is the day we didn't think to have reservations for breakfast because we live in small-town South Dakota and decided to do nothing we had previously planned for the day. Which I am honestly fine with because it's 1. exhausting to stick to a schedule on vacation and 2. I still had a great day spent with Nate. Sometimes you just got to go with the flow and accept that things don't always go to plan.

Breakfast

After failed attempts to get breakfast at both Hope Breakfast Bar and Original Pancake House*, we ended up just grabbing breakfast at Brueger's Bagels/ Caribou.

*We didn't necessarily leave empty-handed at Original Pancake House because there was a girl scout troop selling cookies outside and they were the most convincing girl scouts I've ever seen in my life. Not to mention I was hungry, lol. But also kudos to the moms for strategically setting up a table outside of a busy breakfast restaurant that had an hour-and-a-half wait.

Daytime Activities

For our afternoon activities, we scrapped our plans of ice skating and went shopping in Maple Grove. We spent the rest of the day exploring the different suburbs of the cities and daydreaming about which one we will move to one day.

Dinner & Drinks

We met up with a group of our friends for dinner at India Palace in Roseville. Nate and I were craving Indian food so we were very happy to hear that our friends Mollie & Derek had a place they recommended. It was the perfect meal and we will definitely be back!

After dinner, we went out for drinks and conversation at Sociable Cider Werks and Bauhaus Brew Labs.

Sunday

Breakfast

We met Nate's parents at Charlie's on Prior for Sunday brunch. We were lucky enough to get in since there was a charity pond hockey tournament going on right outside on the lake. I wish we were able to stay and watch the games but we had other things planned.

Daytime Activities & Drinks

We spent the rest of the late morning playing minigolf at The Burrow in Victoria; I was not on my game but Nate and his mom played pretty well.

Next, Nate's mom recommended we check out Lisa's Place for afternoon drinks before heading back to the Cities for the evening. Lisa's place is a cute small-town bar where we just wanted to catch an afternoon drink and the end of the Wild game on TV; little did we know we stumbled into a two-hour game of BARGO where Nate won a free drink and his mom won a prize as well!

Dinner, Drinks, & A Vance Joy Concert

Our evening included a dinner reservation in downtown Minneapolis at Barrio where I ordered the enchiladas and Nate ordered an array of different tacos. After dinner, we still had some time to waste before the doors opened at the State Theatre for the Vance Joy Concert so we stopped in at Tom's Watch Bar for a quick snack and a round of drinks.

The Vance Joy Concert was everything and MORE! I wouldn't have changed anything about the concert, the lineup was perfect and included an AMAZING cover of ABBA's Gimmie, Gimmie that turned the entire theatre into a sing-along. Getting to sing all of the song lyrics with Nate was the cherry on top. I wouldn't have wanted to end our trip any other way.

Monday

Before hitting the road for the long trip ahead of us we stopped and got breakfast at St. Paul Bagelry. We both got bagel sandwiches that were chefs kiss and a great start to the snowy Minnesota morning.
