Phoenix, AZ 2024

Arizona in the spring... it has a nice ring, doesn't it?! Not too hot but not as cold as a Minnesota winter (even though our first winter up North was milder than we originally expected). We are so glad we could take an entire week off to travel and get some much-needed r & r while visiting Nate's family who live just outside Phoenix, AZ. Our itinerary was filled with great restaurants, hiking, golf, and more!

Phoenix Travels; What We Did & Where We Went

This trip marked our third vacation to the Phoenix area together so we had a good idea of what to do. We took full advantage of the Arizona weather by doing as much outside as possible!

Golf

We were able to brush up on our golf skills during the trip by hitting up Top Golf & playing putt-putt golf with Nate's grandparents & cousin, Bethany, who was staying with them during her spring break. Our golf adventures didn't end there; Nate and I enjoyed a round of 18 holes at Peoria Pines. Although this was my first time playing a full 18 holes and my first time getting out on a golf course for the year I surprisingly did quite well! In addition, we also golfed 9 holes with Nate's parents at Desert Mirage Golf Course.

Hiking

One thing that we've always enjoyed is getting out to explore the great outdoors. We hiked around Papgo Park, White Tanks Reginal Park, and Camelback Mountain during our previous trips to the Phoenix area. We decided to go North to Lake Pleasant Regional Park on this trip.

Bethany tagged along with us to go hiking; so the three of us had a fun adventure hiking the Wild Burro and Yavapai Point Trails. Although we didn't see a single burro on the Wild Burro trail we still saw some great views filled with water views & plenty of Arizona cacti. Yavapai Point was a fun, out & back trail; the summit had such great views of Lake Pleasant; the only downside of this hike was getting caught in a heavy thunderstorm on the way back to our car! It's crazy how one minute you are at the top of a hill with the sun shining and another minute you're drenched with cold rain. But we can't complain! We still had so much fun and now have a lasting memory of running on the trails back to the car dodging puddles & cacti.

Entertainment

Nate and I went 'Drunk Shakespere' for our date night at the Rose Theatre in downtown Phoenix. Drunk Shakespeare is a comedy performance where one of the performers has to drink throughout the evening. Every performance of Drunk Shakespeare uses a different Shakespeare story so we were treated to an interactive humorous performance of Macbeth.

We couldn't miss out on Spring training baseball while we were visiting! We went to Surprise Stadium with Nate's parents for a Kansas City Royals & Arizona Diamondbacks game. The weather was perfect during the game and we enjoyed some nice cold drinks and fun ballpark food!

The rest of our trip was filled with catching some sun & relaxing at the pool, winning a lil friendly poker night, and catching up on some reading. Nate couldn't stay away from Minnesota hockey while we were in Arizona so we tuned in to watch the Edina boys win state.

Phoenix Travels; Area Eats & Drinks

One thing I love most about traveling is the food! I enjoy the scavenger hunt-like experience of finding new restaurants with the reward of exciting flavors & new dishes. By now you probably know I am a sucker for a good breakfast!! If we could have eaten breakfast for every meal on our trip we would, I knew Nate wasn't going to let that fly, so I settled for only a few fun breakfast spots. Brunch Snob, located in Phoenix offered some fun takes on breakfast; including the pancake tacos that I ordered. In addition, we also grabbed a quick breakfast at NW Coffee Shop before our hiking outing and a stop at The Boyer Cafe for tasty coffee & bagels before golfing at Peoria Pines

We also enjoyed dinner with Nate's parents at Coopers Hawk Winery & Restaurant and $1.99 Margs on Wednesdays at Rio Mirage a Robertson/Velander favorite. Our date night in Downtown Phoenix included dining at POMO Pizzeria; which arguably had some of the best pizza we've had in a while!

Every trip we've taken to Phoenix we always find ourselves walking around Roosevelt Row; Phoenix's arts district. We love discovering the new murals that have been created since our last trip and grabbing a drink at one of the many bars & breweries. Greenwood Brewing has become one of our favorite go-to breweries whenever we visit the area. It is a cute spot with plenty of outdoor seating to enjoy the sunny Arizona weather. While on Rosevelt Row we also checked out The Theodore; a craft beer & wine tap house where we tried some local beers & ciders.

After the Drunk Shakespeare show we walked around downtown Phoenix and stopped by The Yard Milkshake Bar. I have been following The Yard Milkshake Bar on social media for a while so I was so excited to try out their fun and over-the-top creations! We shared the S'mores milkshake and it was the perfect "late" night snack before heading back for the evening.

There are so many more trips to Arizona in our future! Have recommendations for fun things to do in the Phoenix area? Feel free to message me on Instagram @natoutwest I'd love to add your ideas to my next trip!
