A Letter to My Parents

Mom & Dad

Growing up I remember looking through old photo albums of my parents in their twenties and thinking to myself "I want to travel to all of these places and share in these experiences too." I woke up

one day recently and asked myself what will my children look through one day and aspire to do?

Before I start sharing my experiences here on this blog there are two people I want to specifically thank for getting me to where I am today.

Dear Mom & Dad,

Thank you for showing me the joys of travel, taking us on countless road trips, stopping at wacky roadside attractions and numerous historical landmarks, and for sharing with me your appreciation for the great outdoors. I also can't forget the road trip playlists that are comprised of hours of Coldplay, Chicago, and Train.

You've introduced me to some of my favorite places including the Art Institute of Chicago, the sandy beaches of Florida, and Yosemite National Park, just to name a few. We've been to both coasts of the U.S. together and to our Northern neighbor, Canada. Both of you have pushed me to take risks and explore new places near and far; like China, Arizona, and South Carolina.

Through these experiences, I've gained a better worldview and understanding of different cultures. Something that I think is so important, especially in this day and age.

Dad, you showed me the importance of taking photos with both my digital and film cameras and the importance of preserving and showing your photos to others. Your photos that have hung in our house since I was young have inspired me to capture landscape photos of the places I go. I wish everyone could see your photos and the beauty that they captured.

Mom, you have shown me to slow down and soak in every moment of each trip I take. I've learned from you to always bring a good book to read during long road trips, to splurge just a little bit because it's vacation, and to enjoy every moment you have with the people you are with. These are three of the best things that bring me joy while traveling.

I am so happy to have you in my life and can't wait to share the joys of travel that you helped instill in me. I look forward to our next trip we get to take together and to see where you both may go without me as well. I truly am so thankful and owe you so much for the opportunities you've given me. I love you both to the moon and back (maybe we'll travel there one day too)

Sincerely,

Natalie
